I am enjoying Cyberjihad. I'm afraid to read it on the plane so I put a pretty cover on it--this reminds me of Junior High School! I am not a techie, but I am astonished at the intricacies that you were able to describe so well. It would definitely make a good movie. When is the sequel?
Congrats -FLOGAT

So from reading this novel I now know that two out of three terrorists enjoy the refreshing meal of Falafel when kidnapping an innocent woman!
Maybe the FBI should be notified.

Cyberjihad was an interesting read. I wish you had made the bad guys the focul point of the book. They were so much more interesting than Kyle and his hacker friends.

Can anyone tell me if CyberJihad is printed as a hardcover book, or a paperback edition?

Robert;
How many years did it take you to research the computer details in CyberJihad? I'm speaking about the technical details and the facts about the government supercomputer, plus all the hacking software, etc?
I enjoyed your book. Down with MCBASH!

Dear MCBASHED,
I've been working in and educated in the computer field for 22 years. I spent 10 years on and off writing Cyberjihad. Some of the material regarding networks I know from my experience. I had the opportunity to visit the San Diego Supercomputer center when attending a computer conference some years ago and that stuck in my mind and the center wound up in Cyberjihad.
I spent many hours researching Echelon (The NSA's way of monitoring communications throughout the world). I took what I found doing that research and extended it into a much more insidious government project. Some may say the NSA's work with Echelon is insidious enough without my emelishments. It's hard to say, without being an insider, where the truth ends and the fiction begins in this regard for Cyberjihad.
I hope this gives you a clearer understanding of what I did regarding the technical aspects of Cyberjihad.

Thanks Paula. The quote "Somewhere along the way the constitution and the bill of rights have become toilet paper." was a remark a computer geek friend of mine used to use whenever he thought the government (more specifically a certain political party in power) was perceived to be abusing their powers and invading citizen's privacy.

The book was a terrific read- I highly recommend it- Great novel for those that like computers but do not have to love computers- makes this an easy read.

The book was a fun read. Buy what I want to know is where those terrorists bought that delicious Falafel from. Was it a specific place in Queens? I'd love to try it sometime.
Please advise?

Dear Chickpea,
I'm not quite sure where the terrorists picked up their falafels in Jersey City - I pretty much leave it up to the reader's imagination.
I used to frequent this Afghan place on Fulton Street in downtown Manhattan (just a stones throw away from the World Trade Center), but alas it is gone - apparently nobody was interested in their fine falafels post 9-11.
May I suggest Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn. Details of the area can be found in my short story "A Tale of Two Towers" on this web site.
Best wishes,
Robert Lanzone

Robert;
Do you beleive that a terrorist plot involving computer networks is possible in today's world? And do you know of any instance where an attempt has been thwarted?
Lastly, if terrorists were to attack/take over a computer network, which do you think they would target? Would banks be more vulnerable than government agencies? Could NASDAQ or Dow Jones be infiltrated?
And where is the best place for a Falafel in the Wall Street area? (I just had to ask, given earlier posts!)

Dear Catch 23,
Yes, in my view, terrorism on the Internet is a very real possibility. Most people think of computer viruses and spyware when it comes to troubles with the Internet, however, my book CyberJihad deals with a much more clandestine scheme. In my book, Muslim extremists go through great lengths to insert some of their operatives within the information technology division of a large American bank. Once inside, the terrorists plant surreptitious computer code in the firm’s network designed to destabilize the Global Security Network, which manages the world’s economy. The consequences go beyond the devastation of the financial markets and the terrorists soon discover they have access to the West’s military infrastructure and choose to exploit this as well.
Computer technology advances at great speeds. With every innovation there is the possibility of new security holes to be exploited. It's a constatnt tug-of-war of closing up new security holes as new technology is introduced and deployed. Exploiting security holes before they are sealed up is a window of opportunity for hackers or potentially terrorists.
I think targeting financial institutions may be more promising for terrorists, since most financial institutions conduct transactions over the Internet (Think of the implications if these transactions can be changed or disrupted). The government/military do not program thier missiles over the Internet (or do they -- read CyberJihad for an interesting take on this)
Most financial institutions have computer network links to NASDAQ and Dow Jones so why couldn't they be infiltrated through one of these institutions?
As far as an instance of an attempt being thwarted, I have been in contact with a particular reader of my book who claims that an attempt had been thwarted in the 2002-2003 timeframe, but I can't substantiate their claim.
Finally, with all the interest in Falafels on my message board, I did some research and one can order them from the Internet at http://www.falafel-bymail.com/
All the best, Robert Lanzone

Robert;
Thanks for a scary book about terrorists. I enjoyed the story. But with all this talk about food, what I really want to know is where one can get an all-American corn dog in New York City. I'm not big on Falafel, or middle eastern terrorist food.
Thanks,
Midway Barker
